Finally! A decent cafe in my area! I’m so glad I came across the lovely Jess’s instagram, that I was able to visit this cute little cafe – Rubiki Cafe in the Eastern side. If you live out in the outer eastern suburbs, you will know how hard it is to find a cafe with decent coffee and food.
On my first visit I ordered a skinny latte. No surprise here – with the use of Padre coffee beans, it’s almost a guarantee that you’ll have a decent cup of coffee.

I had a long look at the menu and with the help of the lovely waitress, I finally decided on the Lychee Congee with shredded pork (extra $3.50). I was a little worried that the congee would be sickening sweet from the lychee syrup, but it turned out to be a real surprise – the congee was very much like a creamy rice pudding with a hint of lychee flavour. The warm and creamy coconut milk, shredded mint, roughly chopped lychee added texture to the dish. The crispy yet chewy crispy pork complemented the dish well with its salty taste.

This dish is definitely the winning dish at Rubiki and I would highly recommend you to try it – I don’t think there’s any dish out there Melbourne. I could be wrong – but it’s definitely my first lychee congee.
If you live out in the Eastern suburbs and looking for a place to chill out – then give this place a go – you don’t have to drive half an hour to an hour to visit a cafe now! :)
